For individuals & families

The hardest disagreements are with the people we love.

Inheritance, care for a parent, a separation, a neighbour, a shared home. You do not need a lawyer to need a Neutral. You need someone who belongs to nobody at the table, so everyone at it can be heard.

§ 01What you really need

Five needs, in your words.

Drawn from how people in your position actually describe the problem, not from procedure.

(Needs)

To be heard without it becoming a fight

Most family conflicts are about recognition before they are about money.

To keep the relationship

You will still be family, neighbours or co-parents next year.

To understand options in plain language

Not legal strategy, but what is realistically possible.

Privacy

Family matters belong in a private room, not a public court.

Cost in proportion

A process that costs less than the thing you disagree about.

What usually goes wrong: waiting until positions are fixed; asking one relative to be the "neutral" one; going to court first and talking later.

§ 02The cost of waiting

What the evidence says.

Sourced and dated. Use the calculator to estimate your own.

5.1bn

People with at least one unmet justice need: a broad 2019 estimate that also counts legal exclusion and extreme injustice.

§ 03Evaluation for you

4 questions people in your position bring to an evaluator.

§ 04Situations you may face

8 situations where a Neutral helps.

§ 05Roles that fit

The Neutral roles people like you use most.

  1. MediationCan we reach an agreement we both choose?01
  2. FacilitationHow does a group move forward together?02
  3. Neutral EvaluationWhat does an independent professional think of this question?03

§ 06What it costs

Often less than you expect, sometimes free.

Many places offer free or low-cost community and court-connected mediation. Where you need a certified Neutral, fees are published and agreed in advance.
