Essay 08

Neutrality in the age of AI

Machines will make information abundant. Trusted human judgement will become scarcer, and more valuable.

Artificial intelligence is changing how disagreements start and how they might be resolved. It can draft a demand letter in seconds, summarise ten thousand documents, and generate persuasive arguments for any side. It will make conflict cheaper to start. Can it make conflict easier to end?

What AI does well

  • Organising facts and timelines
  • Explaining options in plain language, in any language
  • Helping people prepare for a difficult conversation
  • Drafting a first version of a clause or agreement
  • Routing a situation to the right kind of help

What AI cannot do

It cannot be accountable. It cannot disclose its relationships, accept a mandate, or answer to a professional standard. And models learn from data that carries the biases of the world that produced it. Neutrality requires someone who can be questioned, challenged and held responsible.

Every answer from our engine ends at a human checkpoint. The machine routes. People decide.

Our principles

  • AI informs; humans decide.
  • No AI output is legal advice or a determination.
  • Every AI tool shows its sources and its limits.
  • Personal information is never required to get help.
  • Practitioners disclose AI use to parties.

The Neutrality Engine on this site follows these principles. Try it, and judge it by them.
