Rui Andrade

RUI ANDRADE is a partner in the Vieira de Almeida & Associados (VdA) international litigation & arbitration group based in Lisbon. His practice mainly focuses on cross-border disputes in the oil & gas, energy, natural resources, construction and real estate sectors. He has represented Portuguese and foreign clients (including US, UK, Deutsch, Dutch and African corporations) in many litigation and arbitration proceedings including under the rules of UNCITRAL and ICC, as well as ad hoc arbitration rules. In the oil & gas sector, Rui has been advising and representing many of the main worldwide players. He has a vast experience in coordinating matters of litigation and arbitration in Africa Sub Saharan countries (such as Angola, Mozambique, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe, Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde), as well as in East Timor. Before joining VdA, in August 2015, Rui was a partner with Nabais, Perez, Galamba, Sternberg & Associados and later with Miranda, where he headed the global Litigation and Arbitration practice of the Miranda Alliance (Miranda’s international network of local law firms) for more than ten years. Rui is a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, the International Council for Commercial Arbitration, the International Energy Law Advisory Group, as well as of the Portuguese Arbitration Association. Rui is admitted to the Portuguese Bar Association (1992) and to the Timor-Leste Bar Association. He regularly speaks about matters of arbitration, notably in the energy and oil & gas sectorsand authors several articles on dispute resolution and arbitration related matters. Rui is fluent in Portuguese (native), Spanish and English.
