Nicos Papaefstathiou was born in Paphos, Cyprus. He graduated in Law from the Law School of Salonica University in Greece in 1979. In 1980 he was admitted to the Cyprus Bar. In 1989, he went on to acquire an LL.M. in Corporate and Commercial Law from Queen Mary University (University of London). Nicos joined Tassos Papadopoulos & Co as an
Nicos served two terms as elected President of the Cyprus Bar Association (2000 to 2006). In 2012, he was appointed by the Council of Ministers as a non-executive member to the Board of the Cyprus Hydrocarbons State Company which was authorised at the time to oversee the import, liquefaction, transport and export of hydrocarbons. Nicos was appointed President of the Committee established for the Accountability of State Officers of the Republic from 2004 until 2010. He also served as a member of the Legal Council (1994-2006), the Lawyer’s Disciplinary Board (2000-2006), the Co-ordinating Body against Corruption, as head of the Cypriot Delegation to the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (2000-2006) and as President of the Union of Balkan Bar Associations (2004-2006).
Nicos was also a member of the Accountants’ Disciplinary Board (2003-2009) and in 2013 he was appointed as President of the First Instance Accountants’ Disciplinary Board.
Nicos has contributed articles for Greek and English language media and legal publications and has drafted a number of important pieces of legislation.
